The most expensive sport in the world will hit the land of gambling in 2023. Formula 1 will race in Las Vegas next season. It will be the third race on American soil. “Pretty hardcore”, Lewis Hamilton describes the new racing event.

This season, Lewis Hamilton and fellow drivers will be racing in the Miami Grand Prix in Florida on the 8th of May. They will fly back to the United States in the fall, to start in the Aramco United States Grand Prix on October 23rd, in Austin, Texas.

Next year, drivers will have a third race in the States. It will take place on a Saturday night in November, unlike all the others, scheduled on Sundays. That is because most tourists leave Vegas on Sunday evenings. The Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes cars thus will hit a street circuit at night. The route will cover 3.8 miles (6.1 kilometers) and will include three main straights and 14 corners. The cars should reach speeds of up to 212 mph (342 mph) on the longest straight. They will be going around the street track over 50 times before seeing the checkered flag at the finish line.

The route will take the drivers to the world-famous Las Vegas Strip and other sight-seeing spots in the city of gambling.

“There is no better place for Formula 1 to race than in a global entertainment capital of the world. And we cannot wait to be here next year”, says Stefano Domenicali, president and executive chief of Formula 1.

Drivers enthusiastic about Formula 1 going to Las Vegas

FIA has not established the full calendar for next season yet. Fans are yet to see if Las Vegas replaces a race or will simply be added in the season.

Drivers have already reacted to the introduction of Las Vegas in the next year’s season. “That’s going to be a pretty hardcore event,” said seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton.

Alpha Tauri’s Pierre Gasley seems just as enthusiastic. “That’s going to be insane,” the French driver anticipates.
