Mercedes is ramping up production of the new Mercedes GLC EQ at its Bremen factory due to rising demand.

In just three months, the new Mercedes GLC EQ has received more orders than any other electric model in Mercedes history, even surpassing the strong demand recorded for the new Mercedes CLA EQ.

As a result, Mercedes has begun increasing production of the Mercedes GLC EQ, which is built in Hall 9 of the Bremen plant. This is the largest hall at the Bremen factory and has operated on a three-shift schedule for more than a decade.

The Mercedes GLC EQ is produced on the same production line as the Mercedes GLC with combustion engines and PHEV versions, as well as the EQE.

The Bremen plant is recognized as a pioneer of electric mobility because this is where production of the Mercedes EQC began in the summer of 2019. The Mercedes GLC EQ is the third electric model produced at the Bremen factory.

The main components of the Mercedes GLC EQ come from Germany and Romania. The new 94 kWh net battery with 800V technology has been produced at the Accumotive plant in Kamenz since 2026, the axles come from the Hamburg plant, and the electric motors come from the Sebeș plant in Romania, which is the only factory besides Untertürkheim that produces electric motors.

The Bremen plant employs 10,500 people, making it the largest employer in the region. No fewer than 11 models are currently produced there: the EQE, the C-Class Saloon and Estate, the CLE Coupé and Cabriolet, the GLC mid-size SUV, the GLC Coupé, the GLC with EQ Technology, the Mercedes-AMG SL and GT models, and the Mercedes-Maybach SL. Of these, seven are produced exclusively at the Bremen plant.

The Bremen plant was built by Borgward in 1938 and fully acquired by Mercedes in 1978. Since then, more than 10 million vehicles have been produced there.

By integrating production of the Mercedes GLC EQ in Bremen, Mercedes has secured a solid future for this location, which will be further strengthened by upcoming electric models built on the new MB.EA platform, such as the new C-Class EQ.

“Bremen and Mercedes-Benz is a success story 50 years in the making. More than 10,000 employees and more than 10 million vehicles built – these are some impressive figures! I’m certain that this era will continue seamlessly with the electric GLC. So, congratulations to the employees and the Group, and here’s to the next 50 years together.”
— Mayor Andreas Bovenschulte, President of the Senate of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen

That’s great news about the GLC EQ production increase. It seems like more people are recognizing the value of electric SUVs.

I think the new technologies with 800V, high charging power and similar price with the classic engines convinced people to buy an electric SUV.
