Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe, the Little Brother of the AMG GT 63 and GT 55, Comes with Just Two Motors and 544 PS

Mercedes has unveiled the entry-level version of the new AMG GT 4-Door Coupe. The Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe is powered by two Yasa axial-flux electric motors producing a combined 544 PS.

At the end of May 2026, Mercedes introduced the new-generation Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe in AMG GT 55 and AMG GT 63 guise, both featuring three Yasa axial-flux motors (two at the rear and one at the front) delivering 816 PS and 1,169 PS, respectively.

The new Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe uses two Yasa axial-flux motors—one at the front and one at the rear—developing a combined 544 PS. Prices start at €115,430, compared with €154,700 for the AMG GT 55 4-Door Coupe and €196,350 for the AMG GT 63 4-Door Coupe.

With 544 PS, the Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe matches the output of the Porsche Taycan 4S exactly. However, its 800 Nm of maximum torque exceeds the Taycan 4S’s 695 Nm. The Porsche is also almost €8,000 more expensive, with prices starting at €122,000. That price applies to the version equipped with the 82.3-kWh net battery, while the Performance Battery Plus with 97 kWh of net capacity costs an additional €5,522, increasing the price gap between the two models to nearly €14,000.

Although significantly less powerful than the AMG GT 55 and GT 63, the Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe still delivers impressive performance, sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds (compared with 2.8 seconds for the AMG GT 55 and 2.4 seconds for the AMG GT 63). Top speed is 230 km/h, or 250 km/h when equipped with the optional AMG Driver’s Package.

Unlike its more powerful siblings, the AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe features a two-speed automatic transmission on the primary rear motor, with gear ratios of 5:1 and 11:1, similar to the electric Mercedes GLC and electric CLA.

The 106-kWh battery, made up of 2,660 cylindrical cells arranged in 18 plastic modules, is identical to the one used in the more powerful models and supports the same extraordinary 600-kW DC charging capability. In fact, 600 kW is the maximum charging power supported by the CCS standard, as higher charging rates require water-cooled connectors compliant with the MCS (Megawatt Charging System) standard. WLTP range is rated between 682 and 809 km, substantially exceeding that of the Porsche Taycan equipped with the Performance Battery Plus, which offers between 549 and 642 km.

Like its larger siblings, the Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe features simulated gear shifts in AMGFORCE Sport+ mode—a feature Porsche has recently introduced on the Taycan as well—and reproduces the sound of the inline six-cylinder engine from the previous combustion-powered AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe comes standard with adaptive air suspension, an active rear spoiler that deploys at speeds above 150 km/h, and a rear diffuser to optimize airflow. As with the more powerful models, the driver can choose from six driving modes: Comfort, Sport, AMGFORCE Sport+, Slippery, Eco, and Individual.
