Although it features superior technology with axial-flux motors and an F1-inspired battery, higher charging power, and greater total output, the versions of the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe are cheaper than the rival Porsche Taycan Turbo, Turbo S, and Turbo GT models.

Mercedes has revealed the prices for the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, and we were surprised to discover that the car is cheaper than the equivalent Porsche Taycan versions, even though the Mercedes-AMG coupe is superior in several areas: higher power output, faster charging capability, more advanced Yasa axial-flux motors, and a battery with cylindrical cells and a special F1-inspired cooling system.

Here are the prices:

  • Mercedes-AMG GT 55 4-Door Coupe 4Matic+ (816 PS) – 154,700 euros
  • Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4-Door Coupe 4Matic+ (1,169 PS) – 196,350 euros

By comparison, the Porsche Taycan Turbo with 884 PS starts at 177,200 euros, the Turbo S with 952 PS costs 211,000 euros, and the Turbo GT with 1,034 PS costs 241,100 euros.

The downside is that some chassis and aerodynamic systems are optional depending on the version.

For example, the AMG Dynamic Plus package, which includes AMG Active Ride Control suspension with active roll stabilization, AMG Race Engineer, Race mode, and AMG Track Pace, is standard on the flagship AMG GT 63 but costs an extra 5,295.50 euros on the entry-level AMG GT 55.

Many other packages are optional on both versions as well.

The AMG Driver package, which includes ceramic disc brakes, an increased top speed of 300 kph, and the AMG Performance cooling system, is optional on both versions and also comes with 21-inch alloy wheels for 6,247.60 euros.

In addition, the Aerokinetics Venturi Flow package, featuring the two underbody flaps — one at the front and one centrally mounted to create ground effect — costs an extra 5,176.50 euros, while the AMG Aerodynamics package with the rear diffuser and aerodynamically optimized 20-inch wheels adds another 4,522 euros.

Even charging at up to 600 kW is not standard, because the base price includes charging at a maximum of 350 kW, while charging at up to 600 kW costs an extra 2,380 euros through the AMG Performance Charging package, which also includes an AMG cooling system.

The panoramic roof is standard, but the Sky Control panoramic roof with illuminated pattern costs an extra 2,975 euros. On the AMG GT 63, customers can choose the carbon-fiber roof at no additional cost; it is 10.9 kg lighter than the panoramic roof and helps lower the center of gravity. However, on the AMG GT 55, the carbon-fiber roof costs an additional 4,760 euros.

On both versions, the head-up display costs extra (1,297.10 euros), as does augmented reality navigation (464.10 euros). The Burmester 3D Surround audio system is standard on both versions, but the high-end 4D Surround version costs an additional 4,879 euros on both models.

You also need to spend a considerable amount on the seats, as the AMG Performance seats included in the AMG Performance Seat package cost 3,439.10 euros on both models, while the AMG Performance High-End package with Nappa leather and illuminated AMG lettering on the front seats reaches 6,116.60 euros.

The two individual rear seats are standard, but the three-seat rear bench costs 821.10 euros, multicontour front seats cost 1,904 euros, front seat ventilation adds another 916.30 euros, and rear seat heating costs 428.40 euros.
