The Mercedes-AMG SL will see the light of day by the end of the month. It is – Mercedes claims – the newest edition of an automotive icon.

Thursday, October 28, 2021. It is the day Mercedes pulls the curtain on the SL during an event that will take place online.

Philipp Schimer, Chief Executive Officer of Mercedes-AMG, and Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Daimler AG, will be the ones detailing the new car. Fans of the iconic roadster can watch the world premiere live at https://media.mercedes-benz.com/amg-sl.

Mercedes takes the model back to its roots, equipping it with a soft top. The 2+2 seater is not getting the company’s all-wheel drive 4MATIC+ system for the first time.

The carmaker is working on fitting futuristic technology in the Mercedes-AMG SL while keeping the personality of the first-ever generation. It is also the first time AMG is building the model.

Futuristic technology onboard an iconic model, now in the shape of the Mercedes-AMG SL

Mercedes has already revealed snaps of the interior showing what the company’s rep refers to as “hyperanalogue” cockpit. It is a cockpit “caught between digital and analog luxury”, chief designer Gorden Wagner explained.

There is an electrically adjustable 11.9-inch display in the center console, thus offering top visibility under direct sunlight. A 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster provides the relevant driving data.  The Germans will fit in the latest generation of the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) and there will be an optional head-up display onboard. The 64-color Ambient Light system will be there to highlight the fluid design of the future Mercedes-AMG SL.

With a 2+2 seating layout, the future SL will only reserve its rear seating area for people that are not that tall or are willing to double up in there.

There will be a warm air scarf system that will make the car comfortable with the top down regardless of the weather.
