The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series, based on the first-generation AMG GT (C190), was one of the most successful AMG Black Series models, with around 1,700 units built. Produced between 2021 and 2023, the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series was equipped with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 730 PS at 6,700–6,900 rpm and a maximum torque of 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) at 2,000–6,000 rpm. The V8 engine, codenamed M178 LS2, used a flat-plane crankshaft compared to the cross-plane crankshaft of the standard AMG GT model.
Even rarer was the limited series of just 275 units of the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Project One. This model was offered exclusively to the 275 customers who were shortlisted for the 275 units of the Mercedes-AMG One hypercar.
Although it was never officially announced, it appears that Mercedes offered this special model as a way to console or reward Mercedes-AMG One customers who had to wait nearly three years to receive their ordered hypercar. Mercedes encountered numerous challenges in adapting the Formula 1 engine for use in a road car, which is why the car’s launch was delayed from autumn 2019 until June 1, 2022.
At that point, Mercedes decided to offer those who had paid €2.75 million plus taxes for a Mercedes-AMG One the opportunity to purchase a Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Project One. Rumors suggest that the Project One was also built in 275 units, with 25 allocated to the U.S. market, though it is unclear whether all AMG One owners also bought a GT Black Series Project One.
The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine was the same, but the color scheme was unique to this model. The Project One was painted in Cirrus Silver and Obsidian Black with turquoise accents as a tribute to Mercedes’ Formula 1 partner, Petronas. In addition, the body stood out with aggressive carbon-fiber aerodynamic elements and an intricate three-pointed star motif on the doors.
The interior is trimmed in a combination of black Dinamica and Exclusive Nappa leather, highlighted by vivid turquoise-green stitching and stripes.
The example offered at auction has only 68 miles (102 km) on the odometer and includes $56,000 worth of optional equipment, such as the Burmester High-End Surround Sound System, Keyless-Go and Lane Tracking packages, a touchpad, and carbon-fiber door sills and crossbar.
In February 2025, the car received a multi-point inspection and a new front crankshaft seal at Mercedes-Benz of Pembroke Pines, Florida.
The estimated selling price is between $500,000 and $600,000.
