The world’s first four-door coupe is back. The new Mercedes-Benz CLS receives a sportier look and the upgrades that the premium car maker fits in all of its new models. Official photos and data of the CLS facelift.
The new Mercedes-Benz CLS facelift has been redesigned. It now gets a brand-new radiator grille and new bumper. There is a new front apron for the entry-level model with Avantgarde Exterior. Striking louvers at the sides, a front splitter in chrome and a rear apron with a black diffuser-look insert and a silver-chrome trim strip make up the looks of the model.
When the customer ticks the AMG Line Exterior box, the car comes with the AMG-specific front apron with A-wing in black, a front splitter in silver chrome and distinctive air intakes with vertical bars. There are also aerodynamically shaped flics in high-gloss black.
A new paint color joins the range: the spectral blue metallic.
Mercedes-Benz has also prepared two new trim finishes. There is an open-pore brown walnut and a high-gloss grey wood. Customers also have more choices when it comes to leather seat upholstery. Neva grey/magma grey and sienna brown/black are available. A new multifunction steering wheel in nappa leather is onboard. It features spokes in high-gloss black with silver chrome edging. The paddle shifters are in silver chrome.
The engines of the new Mercedes-Benz CLS facelift
The Mercedes-Benz CLS will come in different petrol and diesel flavors. The entry-level variant of the petrol range is the CLS 350 with a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter engine that develops 299 horsepower. Further up in the range, there is the CLS 450 4MATIC with an inline 6-cylinder 3.0-liter engine. It provides the car with 367 horsepower. The current top-of-the range CLS 53 4MATIC+ comes with 435 horsepower and 520 Nm for an acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. Their speed is electronically limited at 250 km/h.
The diesel range starts with the CLS 220 d with the 4-cylinder 194-horsepower unit and a top speed of 237 km/h. The CLS 300 d 4MATIC features a mild-hybrid powertrain. It integrates a four-cylinder diesel engine, a starter-generator and a 48-volt electrical system. It develops a total of 265 horsepower plus a 15 kW electric boost. Meanwhile, the CLS 400 d 4MATIC offers 330 horsepower. The latter two reach a top speed of 250 km/h.
The Mercedes-AMG CLS 53 4MATIC+ and an Edition model
The Mercedes-AMG CLS 53 4MATIC+ comes with a redesigned front end. The latest-generation steering wheel is onboard. Two new packages allow further sporty customization. There is also an AMG Night Package II, in combination with the AMG Night Package. It brings a darkened chrome finish for the radiator grille, for the Mercedes-Benz star at the rear and for the typography.
The AMG Dynamic Plus Package offers red brake calipers with black AMG lettering. The car gets the additional “Race” driving mode with Drift mode.
Under the hood of this variant, there is a 435-horsepower engine with integrated starter-generator. The unit adds 16 kW of power and 250 Nm of torque, supplying the 48-volt network. The engine transfers resources to all four wheels via the AMG Speedshift TCT 9G transmission and the fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system. The car also gets the AMG Ride Control+ air suspension for extra dynamic driving experience.
Mercedes-AMG will offer 300 limited Edition units. Customers can choose cashmere white magno or selenite grey magno for the exterior paintwork. There will be racing stripes above the side sills, in dark grey metallic for the cashmere white variant and black non-metallic for the selenite grey magno. Both stripe variants get highlighted in red non-metallic gloss.
Black 20-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels are standard. The AMG Night Package and the AMG Dynamic Plus Package are standard for the Edition model. A two-tone AMG nappa leather trim in black/silver grey pearl, AMG trim in carbon, a steering wheel in nappa leather and DINAMICA microfiber with red contrasting topstitching are part of the menu.
Extensive tech for the new Mercedes-Benz CLS facelift
The new Mercedes-Benz CLS comes with ample series of safety and connectivity features. Active Brake Assist, Active Speed Limit Assist, Active Stop-and-Go Assist are on the list. Active Park Assist with Parktronic and a 360o camera makes parking and maneouvers in narrow spaces easier.
The MBUX infotainment system received an upgrade last year. The 10.25-inch screens, arranged side by side, are standard equipment in the new CLS. Customers can also choose the two 12.3-inch screens. They can also go for the optional MBUX Interior Assist.
