Mercedes sends into the premium electric segment a brand-new ace. It is the compact EQA that the German car maker describes as an electric athlete.
The new Mercedes EQA features a back panel front grille with the three-pointed star in the center. The continuous fiber-optic light strip at the front and rear end represents the key element of the Mercedes-EQ range. In order to make the model perfectly identifiable, the experts decided on relocating the lisence plate into the bumper.
The car comes with light-alloy wheels in a bi- or tri-color design with sizes up to 20 inches. A rose gold-colored on ventilation outlets, seats and vehicle key or blue decorative trim are also available. The Edition 1 will feature perforated leather seats with blue fabric.
Mercedes promises the driver an SUV-typical high and upright seating position and good all-round visibility.
The new Mercedes EQA benefits from better range due to low drag coefficient
The new EQA boasts a Cd value of 0.28. the completely closed cooling air control system in the upper section, the aerodynamically efficient front and rear aprons, the almost completely enclosed underbody, the Aero wheels and wheel spoilers go a long way for the very low drag coefficient.
Mercedes equipped the new EV with a highly intelligent thermal management system. It reuses the heat from the electric drive system and is configured for top efficiency, thus maximizing range. The driver will also have the possibility to set the pre-entry climate control prior to starting, straight via the MBUX infotainment system or via the Mercedes me App.
As previously teased by Mercedes, the EQA will benefit from the presence of the Navigation with Electric Intelligence. The technology calculates the fastest route to the destination, considering charging stops, topography and weather.
The MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system is standard equipment. Drivers can activate it by simply saying “Hey Mercedes”. The tile layout of the display can also show charging options, electrical consumption and energy flow.
The figures of the new Mercedes EQA
The launch variant is the EQA 250 with 140 kW and 375 Nm of torque. The car can run from a standstill to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 160 km/h. This was the variant that the Auto motor und sport has already reviewed, ahead of the official reveal.
A “double-decker” lithium-ion battery of with a capacity of 66.5 kWh provides it with a range of 486 kilometers according to the NEDC testing cycle.
Mercedes claims a charging duration of 5 hours and 45 minutes when connected to an AC wallbox or public charging station. 30 minutes are enough when using a DC rapid charging station.
Further variants with more output and all-wheel drive and better range of up to 500 kilometers within the WLTP standard, are underway.
In order to meet the stringent standards of safety, the battery sits within the frame made of extruded sections. A battery guard, located in front of the unit, prevents the unit from the piercing of sharp objects.
The model has a towing capacity of 750 kilograms. The variants with all-wheel drive system will come with superior capabilities.
