The new Mercedes-Benz S 560 e is the new name of efficient luxury. The third generation of the Mercedes plug-in hybrid is set to launch with the face of the new S 560 e this month with the higher electric performance and faster charging times.
Mercedes-Benz is preparing for an emission-free future. The high-class sedan will be exclusively available with a long wheelbase, benefiting from the precision and efficiency of the 9G-TRONIC plug-in hybrid transmission. There comes onboard a new and smaller lithium-ion battery, with a capacity of 37 Ah (22 Ah for the previous generation) is capable of storing more energy and it that provides an all-electric range of approximately 50 kilometers.
Mercedes S 500 Plug-In Hybrid: intelligent and with style
The battery is manufactured by the DAIMLER-owned subsidiary Deutsche ACCUMOTIVE. The DC/DC convertor has been transferred from the luggage compartment into the power electronics housing. A water-cooled on-board charger of 7.4 kW assists the battery, making charging from 10 to 100% possible in about 1.5 hours when the car is connected to a Wallbox. It takes five hours to charge it from a conventional domestic power socket.
The hybrid system puts together a V6 petrol engine of 367 horsepower (270 kW) with 90 kW of EQ Power for a total output of 350 kW.

Four operating modes and five driving programs are available on-board, as the system lets the driver in control of how much of the engine and how much of the battery energy he wants to use on the road. He gets the assistance of the ECO Assist system, that makes use of the data provided by the driving assistance systems (navigation included) and recommends the driver the best moment to come off the accelerator, by displaying a message on the screen or by the resistance point on the throttle pedal.
The new Mercedes-Benz S 560 e features a high-end climate control, as the heater booster is also supplied by the high-voltage on-board electrical system, thus allowing pre-entry climate control of the interior, regardless of the season, since there is no need for the combustion engine to operate.
The price of the new Mercedes-Benz S 560 e starts at 96,065 euros.
