The most powerful Mercedes SL ever, the Mercedes-AMG SL 63 S E Performance, can be ordered from a price starting at 223,720 euros. The price is a bargain compared to one of its main rivals, the Ferrari 296 GTS, which costs 310,595 euros. Both models accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in just 2.9 seconds, while the top speed is 317 kph in the SL and 330 kph in the Ferrari.

Both models use PHEV powertrains, but they are very different. The Mercedes-AMG SL 63 S E Performance has a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with 450 kW (612 PS) and 850 Nm, positioned above the front axle, mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission and a permanently excited synchronous electric motor with 150 kW (204 PS) at the rear axle (70 kW continuous power).

The rear-wheel drive unit includes a two-speed gearbox and a mechanical rear-axle limited-slip differential. The battery, with a capacity of only 6.1 kWh, offers an electric range of 13 km and charges up to 3.7 kW. The system develops 816 PS and 1,420 Nm in total.

The Ferrari 296 GTS has a different PHEV system, with a 663 PS 3-liter twin-turbo V6 engine located in a central position and a 122 kW (166 PS) electric motor mounted between the combustion engine and the 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The 7.45 kWh battery, located centrally behind the seats, gives an almost double range of 25 km. The system develops 830 PS and 740 Nm transmitted entirely to the rear axle.

The Mercedes-AMG SL 63 S E Performance comes standard with AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive, AMG Active Ride Control adaptive suspension with semi-active roll stabilization, ceramic disc brakes, all-wheel steering, digital headlights and AMG Dynamic Plus package.

Customers can choose between a plain color and five metallic shades, and, optionally, 15 other colors can be ordered, including some from the Manufaktur program costing 7,021 euros. Alloy or forged 21-inch diameter wheels are available in various colors. Electrically adjustable AMG sports seats are standard, with optional AMG Performance sports seats available (2,558 euros). For the perfect listening experience, choose the Burmester High-End 3D Surround system (5,926.20 euros).

The Mercedes-AMG SL 63 S E Performance can be customized with several packages:
