Mercedes-AMG launches the E 63 Final Edition. For this V8-powered version seems to be the beginning of the end. But what is Mercedes up to this time?
The yet unconfirmed news broke out on the German Mercedes Fans website. The post shares four photos of what seems to be the last of the Mohicans: a Mercedes-AMG E 63 Final Edition with a V8 engine. It is a clear indication that Mercedes is phasing out the 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged power unit in non-Affalterbach-made cars. The thoroughbred AMGs will still carry a V8 but will sport electrified powertrains. It is a trend that the Mercedes-AMG GT S E Performance started last year and will become contagious.
According to the German online outlet, the future E 63 Final Edition will get a body in a head-turning dark matte finish. It will sport carbon fiber parts all over and multi-spoke 20-inch light alloys with yellow brake calipers.
There will be plenty of carbon fiber trimming on board as well. The driver gets the AMG Performance steering wheel with a flattened bottom section. The seats will be in leather with contrasting yellow stitching.
The Mercedes-AMG E 63 Final Edition will most likely get 612 PS
The Final Edition sports business sedan will most likely benefit from the presence of 612 PS (604 HP) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque like the S version. The non-S gets 571 PS (563) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque. The top of the range version has just enough for a run from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.4 seconds.
If the news gets confirmed, the launch of a Mercedes-AMG E 63 Final Edition shows that the carmaker is still on a mission of downsizing. A V8-powered E-Class would make no sense, since an EQE performance version is in the cards. The C-Class high-performance version has already dropped the V8.
