The famous comedian Jerry Seinfeld is selling a Mercedes 500E that he bought in 1992 and drove very little. The car will be auctioned by Gooding Christie’s at Amelia Island, Florida, on March 6, 2026.

The American auction house Gooding Christie’s will offer for sale, on March 6, 2026, during an auction held in Amelia Island, Florida, a Mercedes-Benz 500E purchased new by Jerry Seinfeld.

Jerry Seinfeld became famous thanks to the TV series Seinfeld. According to Forbes, Seinfeld has a net worth of $1.1 billion, part of which has been invested in a Porsche collection valued at over $100 million. It is considered the largest Porsche collection in the world and is displayed in a specially designed garage in Manhattan.

Among the special models in the collection are a Porsche 550 Spyder, the very first Porsche 911 ever built, as well as modern hypercars such as the 959, Carrera GT, and 918 Spyder. From time to time, Seinfeld sells a car, and he recently parted with a Porsche 917 used during the filming of the movie Le Mans, starring Steve McQueen. It sold at auction for the incredible sum of $25 million.

On Friday, March 5, 2026, another one of Seinfeld’s cars will go up for auction. It is not a Porsche, but a Mercedes closely linked to Porsche, since the Mercedes 500E was produced by Porsche in Zuffenhausen, in the same building where the Porsche 959 and Audi RS2 Avant were made, because it did not fit on the production lines in Stuttgart.

The Mercedes 500E was one of the world’s most high-performance sedans of the 1990s, developed with Porsche’s assistance. Porsche was responsible for the chassis, acoustics and vibration, electrical systems, exhaust system, and engine peripherals.

Mercedes handled the design and aerodynamics, with the 500E featuring flared fenders and wider tracks to accommodate larger wheels.

The production process was very complex and time-consuming. Mercedes delivered the body components from Sindelfingen to Porsche, which assembled them together with newly developed components such as the widened fenders. The bodies then returned to Sindelfingen for painting. Finally, they were sent back to Zuffenhausen for engine installation and final assembly. As a result, each body traveled twice between Sindelfingen and Zuffenhausen.

A total of 10,479 units were produced from spring 1991 to April 1995. At launch, nearly 35 years ago, the car cost around 140,000 Deutsche Marks (approximately $80,000).

On Classic.com, very well-preserved examples were sold at prices between $60,000 and $80,000.

However, Jerry Seinfeld is asking much more for his car—around $200,000. He bought the car new in 1992, before the facelift. In this version, the V8 M119 engine from the 500 SL produced 326 PS and 480 Nm, with power sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Designed by the renowned designer Bruno Sacco, who also designed the SL R129, the car has the chassis number WDBEA36E5NB713509. It is painted in Brilliant Silver (code 744), features Recaro sport seats, self-leveling rear suspension with automatic ride-height adjustment, and has only 2,335 miles (3,758 km) on the odometer.

As seen in the photos, the car is in exceptional condition despite being 34 years old. Mercedes 500E models in such pristine condition with such low mileage are extremely rare.

Gooding Christie’s estimates the car’s value at between $180,000 and $240,000 due to its excellent condition, very low mileage, and celebrity ownership. This is more than double other listings on Classic.com.
