These are the first ever spy-shots of a prototype for the Mercedes C-Class Coupe which is supposed to be launched in 2015 followed by the cabrio version in 2016.
Mercedes has been working on a completely new C-Class Coupe which makes no compromise. The future
C-Class Coupe will not be cheaper than the limousine, because it does not need to leave any more space for an E-Class Coupe based on the C-Class platform. Why is that? Because the future E-Class Coupe will be positioned higher and will be a real coupe belonging to E-Class family.
With the upcoming Mercedes C-Class Coupe, Mercedes will come back to the good old times and it seems that Mercedes has just remembered its pretty history. We expect more elegant lines with fluid lines in the style that we have already seen in the new S-Class Coupe.
If we speak about mid-sized coupes, Mercedes has a long tradition of cars with a ravishing elegance and a good example would be the W124. Then the CLK and the last generation C-Class Coupe (C 204) followed.
Under the code name C 205, Mercedes is planning the new C-Class Coupe, which will be built on the current C-Class platform and will have an independent design.
The coupe is completely new from the ground floor to the roof, but unfortunately, like in the case of the Audi A5 or the BMW 4 Series, the B-pillar will play a major role.
A construction without the B-pillar with a continuous window frame will be reserved for the S-Class Coupe and for the future E-Class Coupe.
The cabrio version will not follow the BMW solution with a retractable hardtop. Mercedes is looking for the classical solution with textile retractable roof. The wind deflector placed on top of the windscreen invented by Mercedes will remain in place, just like the automatic roll over protection behind the rear seats and the neck warmer.
Even if it plays only a insignificant part, a diesel version will continue to be part of the offer, while the 2.0-liter petrol turbo could go up to 238 HP and 370 Nm. A 3.0-liter V6 bi-turbo with 333 HP will replace the actual 3.5-liter V6 and a Plug-In Hybrid version is also on the list.
An AMG version will be powered by the brand new 4.0-liter V8 AMG with over 500 HP, which theoretically gives a step ahead the BMW M4.
Despite the heavy camouflage, we can see that the side mirrors are mounted on the doors, while in the sedan, these are mounted on the base of the A-pillar. On top, we can expect the registration plate to be located in the bumper, plus those elegant slim taillights, which make the S-Class Coupe so elegant.
