While Mercedes will drop the Mercedes A-Class and thus the super sporty AMG A 45 s 4Matic version, BMW unveiled the facelift of the BMW M2, which now has 480 PS, 20 PS more than before.

Only a year and a half after its launch, BMW also operates a facelift on its smallest M model. Under the hood is the same S58 3-liter inline-6 engine that has been tweaked. Power has increased from 460 to 480 PS, and the maximum torque is 550 Nm in the 6-speed manual transmission version, the same as before the facelift, and 600 Nm in the 8-speed automatic transmission version (+50 Nm).

In the manual transmission version, available as an option, maximum torque is available over a wider range, from 2,650 to 6,130 rpm, compared to 2,650-5,870 rpm before the facelift. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels, with no all-wheel drive version available. The BMW M2 is built on the platform of the BMW M3/M4 and is, therefore, neither much lighter nor much cheaper.

Mercedes doesn’t have a similar version of the A-Class, with the sedan version only available in the AMG A 35 with 306 hp. The more powerful 421 hp engine is only available in the AMG A 45 4Matic, which won’t have a successor.

With the new more powerful engine, the BMW M2 accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in 4.0 seconds (automatic transmission) and 4.2 seconds (manual transmission), 0.1 seconds faster than before. The sprint to 200 kph is 0.6 seconds quicker: 12.9 seconds with automatic transmission and 13.7 seconds with manual transmission. The top speed is 250 kph but can be increased to 285 kph if you opt for the M Driver package.

Standard equipment has been upgraded to include three-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting, a HiFi speaker system, a wireless charging tray, and the BMW Live Cockpit Plus with BMW Maps navigation system.

The multimedia system with a 14.9-inch display received BMW OS 8.5 with touch-screen climate controls included in the multimedia system menu. The interior trim elements in the instrument panel and center console come standard in dark graphite matt with Aluminium Rhombicle Anthracite, M Carbon Fibre, or new Fine Brushed Aluminium available as an option.

The leather-wrapped M steering wheel has a flat-bottomed rim and precisely modified spokes and an optional Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel is available. The M Vernasca leather-trimmed sports seats can be ordered in red/black upholstery, and M Carbon bucket seats are available. Several new colors are also available, such as Sao Paulo Yellow solid, Fire Red metallic, Portimao Blue metallic, and Skyscraper Grey metallic. M alloy wheels in double-spoke design and with a Jet Black finish of 19-inch front and 20-inch rear are standard.

The BMW M2 facelift is produced alongside the BMW 2 Series Coupe at BMW’s San Luis Potosi plant in Mexico.
