Mercedes will have a major presence at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance starting August 18. Mercedes will present the world premiere of the new Mercedes-Maybach SL and the limited series of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 and Mercedes-Maybach S 680.
In its 73rd year, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance is as important to the American market as the Villa D’Este Concours d’Elegance on Lake Como is to the European market.
Mercedes has therefore chosen this event to present the world premiere of the new Mercedes-Maybach SL. It is the first time when an AMG model has been offered under the Maybach brand. The Mercedes-Maybach SL will be unveiled on August 18, but Mercedes is not giving any details about the engine for now except the consumption figure of 13.7 l/100 km (312 g/km CO2 emissions).
Mercedes will also display at Pebble Beach a limited edition Mercedes-AMG GT3 built in just 13 examples to celebrate 130 years of motorsport. Mercedes will also present at Pebble Beach a limited series of the Mercedes-Maybach S 680 called the Nordic Glow Edition, which is exclusively for the US market.
Because Pebble Beach is essentially a Concours d’Elegance, Mercedes will display four iconic models:
– The Mercedes C111-II experimental vehicle from 1970 has been restored and brought back to life after 50 years at the Mercedes Classic Center. The Mercedes C111 is a Wankel-engined supersport concept car that was never built in series production.
– The 1955 Mercedes W 196 R Formula 1 car in which Juan Manuel Fangio won the world title in 1954 and 1955.
– The 1932 Maybach Zeppelin DS 8, which develops 200 PS from a displacement of 7,922 cc.
– The 2-liter Mercedes Targa Florio car that 100 years ago won the legendary Targa Florio race in Sicily and which Mercedes has restored.
At the 2023 edition, Mercedes won the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance with the Mercedes-Benz 540 K Special Roadster. It was the 10th time since the competition’s inception in 1950 that Mercedes won the “Best of Show” title.
