More Efficient Than a Compact EV: New Mercedes eSprinter drives 475 km on a Single Charge

A pre-production Mercedes eSprinter traveled 475 km round trip from Stuttgart to Munich airport on a single charge, achieving a consumption of only 21.9 kWh/100 km, lower than some compact electric models.

Here’s a common situation for a courier company: a bulky parcel needs to be delivered quickly to the airport. The package has to be picked up at the Mercedes museum in Stuttgart and delivered to Munich airport. On the way, another parcel must be picked up from the Mercedes factory in Unterturkheim and another from Goppingen.

Thus, a pre-production Mercedes eSprinter left the Mercedes museum in Stuttgart, stopped at the Mercedes plant in Unterturkheim, and then continued on the B10 national road in the direction of Goppingen on to Ulm. From there, it was on to the A8 motorway and then the A99 Munich ring road to Munich airport. He then returned to Stuttgart, where at the Wendlinger Kreuz junction, the journey led back to the Mercedes-Benz Museum via the B313 and the B10.

The eSprinter traveled a total of 475 km with an energy consumption of 21.9 kWh/100 km. On arrival, the remaining range was only 20 km. The route was not just on flat ground as the difference in level was 575 meters, the lowest point being 210 meters above sea level and the highest 785 meters. The test was also supervised by a TUV South inspector, who confirmed the consumption and range values obtained.

Mercedes has yet to announce the battery capacity but considering the range achieved and the energy consumption the battery is around 100 kWh. The world premiere of the new Mercedes eSprinter will take place in early February 2023.

Mercedes currently has four electric vans: the eVito Panel van, the eSprinter, the eVito Tourer and the EQV. The new eCitan and the EQT will complete the range. In 2025 Mercedes will launch a new modular VAN.EA (Mercedes-Benz Vans Electric Architecture) platform that will underpin all future mid- and large-class models.
