Mercedes is teasing a new AMG and it might just be the entry-level performance version of the newly redesigned C-Class. The car has already been spotted testing with a thick layer of camouflage.
The teaser shows a front end sporting a Panamericana radiator grille that supports the AMG letters. That is obviously a C-Class headlight so we should expect a C 43/ C53 version of the sedan. That would be the latest addition to the lineup after Mercedes revealed the All-Terrain version of the model.
There is a sportier front bumper, the short video posted on Twitter reveals. And, at the opposite end, we expect an air diffuser and a four-tailpipe exhaust system. That’s something that the spy shots have been revealing for the past few months.
An AMG-branded sport steering wheel will make is way on board the car, as well as sports seats.
Mercedes drops the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that has been under the hood of the C-Class performance versions. The carmaker will instead use a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with electrification. It may sound like a downgrade. But in the era of downsizing, that’s exactly the opposite. We should expect at least 421 PS (415 HP) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. That is how much the A 45 S 4MATIC+ gets from the same power unit. Keep in mind that the former generation of the performance C-Class could only go as far as 390 PS (385 HP).
The teaser that Mercedes has just revealed recommends fans not to blink, in what sounds like a hint at speed, as in “Blink and you’ll miss it.”
Mercedes hasn’t undisclosed any figures yet. We will know more when the curtain drops on the new AMG C 43/53. That’s when we’ll find out the exact name of the car.
Here’s to a new AMG: try not to blink when making eye contact.
