Just as the first tests of the new Mercedes CLA are taking place, Mercedes has revealed the first official photos of the Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake, the first electric station wagon in the brand’s history.

The new compact model family from Mercedes, built on the multi-powertrain MMA platform, is expanding. After the four-door coupe CLA, Mercedes now introduces the Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake – the company’s first-ever electric wagon. This lifestyle estate with a sporty silhouette combines the elegance of a four-door model with generous space for passengers and luggage, along with high modularity.

As with the previous generation, the CLA Shooting Brake is identical to the four-door coupe up to the B-pillar. Beyond that point, the roof extends further toward the rear, ending with a spoiler painted black on the inside and in body color on the outside, as well as a rear window that is more upright than that of the coupe. The extended roof also provides an additional 26 mm of rear headroom.

Under the vertical tailgate, there’s a standard trunk capacity of 455 liters, which expands to 1,290 liters when the 40/20/40 split rear seats are folded. While this is slightly less than the previous generation (490–1,355 liters), it’s still more than the new four-door coupe, which offers only 405 liters. The new Shooting Brake’s trunk features tie-down rings and a 12V socket. Additionally, there’s a spacious front trunk (frunk) of 101 liters.

The single-motor version can tow up to 1,500 kg, while the dual-motor variant can handle up to 1,800 kg.

Panoramic Glass Roof – Inspired by Tesla, Enhanced by Mercedes

The standout feature is the panoramic glass roof, inspired by Tesla, but Mercedes has ensured superior thermal comfort inside. The panoramic roof extends seamlessly from the windshield frame to the rear of the vehicle. To protect against solar radiation, it uses laminated safety glass with infrared-reflecting and low-emissivity (LowE) coatings.

Optionally, it can be equipped with a new function that allows the level of transparency to change in just 10–20 milliseconds. Passengers can adjust transparency from fully transparent (100%) for a clear view to completely opaque, offering full protection from the sun. This is controlled via the multimedia system menu.

Additionally, the panoramic roof is illuminated and integrated with ambient lighting for the first time, with 158 embedded stars in the glass surface.

Interior and Technology

The interior is identical to the CLA coupe and features the latest MBUX multimedia system, powered by the in-house MB.OS operating system, with up to three displays mounted under a single pane of glass.

Powertrain from the CLA Coupe

The CLA Shooting Brake uses the same 800V MMA platform and 85 kWh (net) Li-Ion battery as the coupe and comes in two versions:

  • Mercedes CLA 250+ Shooting Brake
    • Rear motor: 200 kW (272 PS), 335 Nm
    • WLTP range: 761 km
    • WLTP consumption: 12.7–15.2 kWh/100 km
    • 0–100 km/h: 6.8 seconds
  • Mercedes CLA 350 4MATIC Shooting Brake
    • Dual motors: 260 kW (354 PS), 515 Nm
    • WLTP range: 730 km
    • WLTP consumption: 13.2–15.7 kWh/100 km
    • 0–100 km/h: 5.0 seconds
    • Top speed for both versions: 210 km/h

The rear motor is a permanent magnet synchronous type and is paired with a two-speed transmission. The battery supports AC charging up to 22 kW and DC fast charging up to 320 kW, allowing 310 km of range to be added in just 10 minutes.

Mild Hybrid Coming in 2026

In 2026, a second-generation 48V mild hybrid version will be introduced, featuring an electric motor integrated between the 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and the combustion engine.

Production and Pricing

The Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake will be built alongside the coupe at the recently modernized Rastatt plant. Prices haven’t been announced yet, but considering the increased interior space, the Shooting Brake is expected to cost around €2,000 more than the coupe.

Currently, the CLA 250+ coupe starts at €55,859, and the CLA 350 4MATIC version starts at €60,381. Just like the coupe, AMG Line and AMG Line Plus packages will be available, along with Advanced Plus, Premium, and Premium Plus option bundles.
