Lewis Hamilton reveals his insights on the future Mercedes-AMG ONE. The first hypercar of the brand has been delayed by the pandemic and by technical issues.
Between pre-season tests, Lewis Hamilton gets to talk about the hypercar that the Mercedes-AMG fans have been waiting. “I’m Lewis Hamilton and this car needs no introduction”, the Brit says in the beginning of the video. The seven-time world champion stands next to the model or leans against the hood while speaking about how potent it is.
“A street car that every Formula 1 dreams about”, he describes it. No wonder world champion himself likes it. The car comes with a Formula 1-inspired propulsion system. It integrates the 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 engine. The unit revs up all the way to 11,000 rpm and idles at above 5,000 rpm. Still far from the compliance with the European emissions regulations. This is actually one of the reasons the car is still in the works. Regardless of the emissions though, the turbo hybrid system will still be capable of delivering more than 1,000 horsepower. The top speed should exceed 350 km/h.
Mercedes-AMG ONE or Project ONE?
Hamilton claims that the soundtrack that the engine provides is similar to the one of a Formula 1 racing car. The British driver refers to the model as “Project ONE”, although Mercedes has been referring to it as “ONE”, with the “Project” designation being reserved for the concept only.
The street-legal racer does not compromise comfort, the champion says. Sir Lewis Hamilton also speaks of playing his favorite music onboard.
Mercedes-AMG has been pacing up trying to start deliveries sometime this year. The sports car manufacturer will only build 275 units based on the concept they showed back in 2017 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Each will have a price of €2,75 million. Unofficial sources claim that the model is already sold out.
