The new Official FIA F1 Safety Car, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro 4Matic+, is the First Mercedes Safety Car with all-Wheel Drive

To mark the 30th anniversary of the debut of the first Mercedes Formula 1 Safety Car, the Mercedes C 36 AMG (W202), Mercedes has unveiled the new Official FIA F1 Safety Car. The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro 4Matic+ is the first Mercedes Safety Car to feature all-wheel drive and will make its debut on July 26 at the Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring.

Mercedes has a long tradition of supplying Formula 1 Safety Cars, having done so continuously since 1996. To celebrate 30 years since its first F1 Safety Car, Mercedes is now introducing the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro 4Matic+ (C192), the 14th Official FIA F1 Safety Car, which will make its race debut tomorrow, July 26, at the Hungarian Grand Prix. It replaces the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series (C190), which was last seen leading the field during the opening four laps of the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro 4Matic+ is the first Mercedes Formula 1 Safety Car with all-wheel drive. Its 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 produces 612 PS and 850 Nm, with power delivered to all four wheels via the AMG Speedshift MCT 9G automatic transmission.

Designed specifically for track use, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro 4Matic+ is an ideal Safety Car. It features AMG Active Ride Control suspension with active roll stabilization, ceramic brake discs, a roll cage, six-point racing harnesses, and Recaro racing seats. The car also runs on Pirelli P Zero R tyres, the same tyre family used in Formula 1.

Compared with the production model, the F1 Safety Car features a light bar in the active rear wing that combines aerodynamic efficiency with a highly visible signaling system and an integrated video camera. In addition, the car is equipped with extra LED lights at the front as well as integrated lighting in the headlights and taillights.

The orange lights indicate no-overtaking zones, while the green lights signal that competitors are permitted to overtake the Safety Car.

The car also retains all the aerodynamic components of the production model, including the hidden carbon-fibre underbody aero element at the front, which extends downward by 40 mm to create a Venturi effect and increase downforce. It also features the active rear wing with five positions, complemented by the new front splitter.

For communication, the car is equipped with the latest FIA communication systems, including radio, GPS, onboard cameras, and a dedicated control unit integrated into the center console.

Two Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro 4Matic+ Safety Cars will be on standby during the Hungarian Grand Prix at the Hungaroring, ready to respond in the event of an incident. Both cars will wear a special livery celebrating 30 years of Mercedes-AMG Safety Cars in Formula 1, with the 30th anniversary logo displayed on the hood, roof, and rear wing.
