The most powerful GLA ever is here. It is the Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 4MATIC+. In its S variant, it comes packed with 421 horsepower. Its tamed variant delivers 387.
The second generation of the Mercedes-AMG GLA has broken cover. It is equipped with the fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, that selectively distributes power to the wheels on the rear axle via AMG TORQUE CONTROL.
The car is set in motion by the completely new AMG 2.0-liter engine, currently world’s most potent turbocharged four-cylinder for series production, that takes the vehicle 40 horsepower and 25 Newton meters further than the former generation, to 421 HP, 500 Nm, respectively, for a record time from a standstill to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds.
The base version gets 387 horsepower. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h, while the S leaves the factory with a top speed of 270 km/h.
The 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system control depends on the driving mode and on the settings selected via the AMG DYNAMICS.
Mercedes-AMG accounts the new model with better cornering characteristics, reduced body roll and improved comfort due to the thorough revision of the suspension components. The driver can choose from three different suspension control modes via the adaptive damping system AMG RIDE CONTROL.
A high-performance braking system provides optimum deceleration and short braking distances. On the base model, the 4-piston monobloc fixed front callipers act on 350 x 34 millimetre brake discs, which are internally ventilated and perforated, while at the rear axle, 1-piston floating callipers act on 330 x 22 millimetre brake discs.
A larger brake system with 6-piston fixed calipers and 360 x 36 millimeter brake discs at the front can be optionally selected.
Six AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs areavailable onboard: “Slippery”, “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Sport+”, “Individual” and “RACE” (standard for S-Model, included in the optional AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package for the base model)
The new GLA 45 4MATIC+ comes with AMG DYNAMICS, an integrated agility control facility that extends the stabilizing functions of the ESP with agility-enhancing intervention in the all-wheel-drive control, steering characteristics and additional ESP functions.
An elongated bonnet with powerdomes, compact greenhouse, muscular shoulders, an aggressive radiator grille with vertical slats confirm the sports DNA of the car. The LED High Performance headlights are standard.
From the side,the 19-inch alloy wheels in a 10-spoke design (the S gets 20-inch wheels in 5-twin spoke design) stand out. There is also an option for the 21-inch larger wheels.
At the rear, there are two round tailpipes of 82 mm for the base version and of 90 mm for the S, and a wider rear apron. The air diffuser features four vertical fins for the air flow optimization.
The MBUX infotainment system completes the high-tech sporty luxurious atmosphere onboard. The driver and the front passenger take a seat in the contoured sport seats with firm lateral support. AMG Performance seats are optional. ARTICO man-made leather and DINAMICA microfiber with double topstitching in red highlight the athletic characteristics. The S model gets yellow accents to prove its connection to the motor racing world.
The driver receives an AMG Performance steering wheel in nappa leather/DINAMICA microfiber with contrasting yellow topstitching, a yellow 12 o’clock marking, AMG steering wheel buttons and AMG logo, plus ambient lighting.
The center console in piano-lacquer finish hosts the switches for controlling the 3-stage ESP, the manual transmission mode, the adaptive damping system AMG RIDE CONTROL and the optional AMG Real Performance Sound.
The S variant is standardly equipped with the AMG TRACK PACE, a software playing the part of a race engineer, that monitors more than 80 vehicle-specific data such as speed, acceleration etc., displaying lap and sector times, but also the gap between the driver’s time and the reference time. The AMG TRACK PACE is capable to detect when the circuit has been left or it has been shortened, using GPS data and sensors available.
The new Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 4MATIC+ gets the AMG exhaust system with specific sounds depending on the drive program, ranging from discreet to sporty, the latter being reserved for the Sport+ and RACE modes. The sound is controlled by an exhaust flap. AMG Real Performance Sound is available as an option.
