The Mercedes EQC 4×42 concept made in a single unit was caught in tests at the forefront of several Mercedes prototypes. Image question or intention to go into series production?

Last year, exactly at this time, Mercedes presented the Mercedes EQC 4×42 concept which was 100% functional. But Mercedes never announced its intention to produce this model in series production.
Therefore, it is surprising to see now this unique prototype leading a series of Mercedes prototypes under test.

But the video made by walkoARTvideos on YouTube shows the electric SUV with a higher ground clearance in action.

Mercedes EQC’s sales do not live up to Mercedes’ expectations, but it is hard to believe that this super niche model could be introduced into series production.

Let’s not forget, however, that Mercedes has previously had two 4×42 studies: E 400 All-Terrain 4×42 and G 500 4×42, the last of which even reached series production in 2015.

Mercedes EQC 4×42 takes over the technical solution of the Mercedes G 500 4×42 with portal axles: unlike conventional axles, the wheels are not at the height of the axle center, but are instead situated much lower down on the axle hubs owing to the portal gears. Thus, the ground clearance of 293 mm is almost double that of the EQC (140 mm). Even the G-Class has a 58 mm lower ground clearance. Also, EQC 4×42 passes through 40 cm water fords, 15 cm higher than at EQC.

And the crossing angles are perfect for hard off-road: approach angle 31.8 degrees, departure angle 33.0 degrees, brakeover angle 24.2 degrees, compared with 20.6/ 20.0/11.6 degrees at EQC.

The video published by walkoART videos shows black wheel arch flares that are 10 cm larger than the normal model and 20-inch wheels with special design mated with  285/50 R20 tyres.

The standard EQC uses the external noise generator which is required by law. The EQC 4×42 has a more powerful sound and uses the headlamps as external speakers for this purpose.
