Mercedes sales decreased by 1.4% globally in Q3 2024 compared to Q3 2023 due to the unfavorable economic climate in China.

Global Mercedes sales totaled 503,600 units in Q3 2024 compared to 510,600 units in Q3 2023, which represents a decrease of 1.4%. Sales declined due to the unfavorable economic climate in China (-13%) but Europe also saw a decrease of 4%. Increases were recorded in North America (+29%) mainly due to the US market (+33%) and the rest of the world (+2%).

In contrast, sales of electric models plummeted to only 42,500 units (-31%) compared to 61,600 in Q3 2023. This poor result calls into question even the revised electrification plan to sell 50% of the production of electric cars in 2030. Mercedes hopes the new CLA EV debuting in 2025 and the upcoming C-Class EV launching in 2026 will contribute to the growth in sales of electric models.

Top-End
Sales of Top-End models fell 11.6% from 69,900 units to 61,800 units. The Mercedes S-Class remains the world’s best-selling luxury limousine despite falling sales figures due to the situation in China, which is affecting sales of luxury models.

Core
Sales in the Core segment rose 4% from 290,300 to 301,000 units. The increase is due to the market introduction of the Mercedes CLE and the improved availability of the Mercedes GLC.

Entry-level
Sales of Entry-level models decreased by 7% from 150,500 units to 140,700 although the Mercedes A-Class, B-Class, and CLA have recently received a facelift.

Sales by region
Europe
Sales in Europe decreased by 4% from 164,200 to 158,300 units mainly due to a decrease in the German market from 53,800 to 50,000 units (-7%). Mercedes is the market leader in PHEV models in Germany.

Asia
Sales in Asia decreased by 9% to 226,300 units due to a massive decline in the Chinese market (-13%) affected by a drop in demand for luxury products across the board.

North America
The US market rescued Mercedes sales in Q3 2024 with an increase of 29% driven by a 33% increase in sales in the US. Mercedes sold 94,600 units in North America in Q3 2024 of which 85,000 were in the US.
