A Mercedes-Benz S-Class that belonged to soccer star David Beckham is now going under the hammer. The car belonged to him and to other eight since it rolled off the assembly line in 2001.

David Beckham bought the W220 new 21 years ago. He specced a Mercedes-Benz S 500 L, with the L indicating the long wheelbase. He chose customized registration plates with a hint at his and his wife’s name, D9DVB (David Victoria Beckham).

The soccer star, back then playing for Manchester United, went for the V8-powered version. He could have asked for more, like an S 600 or a 6.0-liter V12-powered AMG variant. But he stopped at this one. The engine bay shelters a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 petrol engine, sending 306 PS (302 HP) straight to the rear axle.

Black Nappa leather with obvious signs of aging wraps the seats on board. David Beckham chose the walnut veneer trim for the dashboard, center console, steering wheel, and door panels. Powered windows and mirrors, power seats, and a power sunroof are included. The seller warns the future buyer that there are some minor scratches and the usual signs of wear and tear that a two-decade well-maintained premium sedan would display. The boot hosts the original tool kit and a full-size spare wheel.

The premium sedan still sports its stock Obsidian Black, with a retouch, though, and rides on five-spoke AMG wheels. The one selling the car invested over €4,000 ($4,026 at today’s exchange rate) just to fix the Airmatic air suspension. He did not fix the air conditioning system though.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class that used to belong to David Beckham was not exactly a garage queen, but not a working horse either. The odometer shows 124,300. That’s little over 200,000 kilometers.

Bidding has already started on carandclassic.com. The only bid at the time of press is at 5,000 pounds ($5,793), with six days left to the end.
