Roger Federer has just won the Shanghai Masters Series and he was awarded another Mercedes-Benz. It is the E-Class cabriolet this time. He probably doesn’t have much space left to put the trophies and the Mercedes models. Four years ago, the 33-year old Swiss signed a contract that provides him with a Benz every six months.
One more Mercedes-Benz for Federer. It was a model that he was missing. The E-Class Cabriolet (about $75 000 worth) that has been exhibited during the ATP Shanghai Masters Series tournament, will be in his garage as the Shanghai organizers as soon as the Chinese tournament management will ship it.
The Swiss, ranking number two in the ATP top, won the tournament in China and got $798 540 prize money, after defeating the French Gilles Simon by 7-6(6), 7-6(2) in the final and getting his 23rd ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title.
Mercedes-Benz is a sponsor of the tennis open and every year, the German manufacturer is providing luxury transportation for players and VIPs. This year, 30 flagship S-Class saloons and 30 R-Class luxury sports tourers were the official cars at the Masters Series that awarded players with $4,195,895 prize money.
Roger Federer has a weakenss for China. His first partnership with the three-pointed star brand was with Mercedes-Benz China, back in 2008. That is exactly when Merccedes started sponsoring the Shanghai Masters Series.
The Benz Swiss driver is also closing in on the world rank leader Novak Djokovic and trying to finish 2014 as number 1.
Federer witnessed a heart-melting moment in the semifinals, while defeating the Serb. A Chinese spectator proposed to his fiancée, during break time between games, when the kiss cam was set on them. Fortunately, she said “yes”!
