The first Mercedes-Maybach SUV is coming soon, the premium car maker announces. The top-of-the-line high-ride model will be displayed at the Guangzhou Motor Show in China towards the end of the month, but it is also expected to show up in Los Angeles in the same period.
Based on the current GLS generation, the first Mercedes-Maybach SUV makes a vow in terms of space and upgraded luxury onboard. Several features will be carried over from the Maybach S-Class and is set to receive an extended wheelbase compared to the standard one of the GLS, that currently reaches 3,135 millimeters. This translates into more generous space for the rear passengers.
The interior layout can be ordered with either five or four seats, depending on the customer’s preferences.
Caught by the spy photographers testing on the famous Nurburgring racetrack in Germany, the camouflaged-covered SUV reveals nothing to the eyes of the curious. But so far we know that, in terms of design, the SUV will find inspiration in the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury concept, shown last year in Beijing.
The car comes in an already crowded super-luxurious segment, where rules have been made for the past couple of years by the Bentley Bentayga and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
The Mercedes-Maybach SUV will be powered by the company’s 4.0-liter V8 engine, coupled to a 9-speed automatic transmission and a 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. GLS 600 and GLS 650 variants are in the cards.
The car is set to be shown on the 21st of November.
