One year and a half after introducing the Mercedes-AMG GT, Mercedes is flirting with the idea of sending a roadster version to the road, shows a report from GTSpirit.com.

New variants of the AMG GT fireball would be set to see the light of day this year, with the actual sales commencing in the spring of 2017.

The roadster would follow the AMG GT’s engine scheme, with two variants, the standard one, powered by the 476 HP 4.0-liter V8 biturbo and the S one, boasting 510 HP. According to the Mercedes-AMG chief, Tobias Moers, the new car model will receive a “different variant” in addition to the standard and the S ones, without saying what it actually means. It might be though a high-performance model, featuring the powertrain of the uber fast AMG GT R.

Quoted by AutoCar, Tobias Moers also mentions another AMG-branded model, an F1 inspired coupe, set to fill the gap left by the SLS, the super car that sold for a double price compared to that of the GT S. Technically different from the GT, the new super car might feature a hybrid powertrain and styling cues inspired from the racing world.

We are expecting spy photos coming out any time now! Stay tuned, we’ll keep you posted.
