Mercedes is completing its new compact model lineup with a fourth model. Following the CLA, CLA Shooting Brake, and GLB, the company will unveil the third-generation Mercedes GLA on July 29. Based on the new MMA platform, it will be offered with both fully electric and 48-volt mild hybrid powertrains, just like the other models in the compact range.
As we previously reported, Mercedes initially decided to reduce its new compact lineup from seven to four models. However, the company later reversed course and decided to keep the A-Class in production.
So far, Mercedes has introduced the CLA (March 2025), CLA Shooting Brake (July 2025), and GLB (December 2025). All three are built on the new multi-energy MMA platform, which supports both fully electric drivetrains and 48-volt mild hybrid systems powered by the new 1.5-liter engine developed by Mercedes and manufactured by Geely in China.
On July 29, 2026, Mercedes will reveal the fourth model in the lineup: the third-generation Mercedes GLA. It will replace both the current GLA and the EQA, and will be available in both electric and mild hybrid versions.
Like the other compact models, the new GLA will be offered in four fully electric variants and five gasoline-powered mild hybrid versions featuring the same 1.5-liter engine paired with Mercedes’ second-generation 48-volt mild hybrid system. The system integrates a 30 PS electric motor into the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

As with the other electric models in the range, the GLA 250 with the 71 kWh battery actually uses the same 85 kWh battery pack as the GLA 250+, but both the usable battery capacity and the charging power are limited by software. As a result, maximum DC charging is restricted to 250 kW instead of 320 kW.
Like its predecessor, the new Mercedes GLA will remain a five-seat SUV and will be significantly more compact than the GLB. The new GLB, which is available with an optional third row, measures 4,732 mm in length and has a 2,889 mm wheelbase. By comparison, the outgoing GLA is 4,412 mm long with a 2,729 mm wheelbase. We expect the new generation to grow slightly, reaching around 4.50 meters in length with a wheelbase of approximately 2,780 mm.
While the CLA does not offer adaptive suspension, the new GLB does. Therefore, we expect the GLA to also receive adaptive suspension as an option.
The new Mercedes GLA will be built at the Rastatt plant in Germany, where the previous-generation GLA was produced and where the final EQA models are still being assembled. Rastatt also manufactures the new CLA and CLA Shooting Brake.
Production of the previous-generation A-Class has been relocated to the Kecskemét plant in Hungary, where it will remain in production until the all-new MMA-based A-Class arrives in 2028. The GLB is also built there. In addition, Kecskemét will exclusively produce the upcoming compact G-Class, widely known as the “Little G.” Production of the all-electric C-Class also began there in July 2026.
Pricing for the new Mercedes GLA is expected to be slightly lower than that of the GLB. Since the electric GLB range is priced between €53,455 and €62,177, we expect the electric GLA to start at around €51,000 and rise to approximately €61,000.
Similarly, with the combustion-engine GLB priced between €50,396 and €57,048, we expect the mild hybrid GLA lineup to range from approximately €48,000 to €55,000.
