With the facelift of the Mercedes GLE, Mercedes has also revised the AMG versions. The top model, the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Hybrid 4Matic, is now a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) with an impressive output of 585 PS.

With the update of the Mercedes GLE, Mercedes has also improved the powerful AMG variants.

The base model remains the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4Matic, equipped with the new M256evo 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine, featuring an electrically driven compressor, turbocharging, and mild-hybrid technology with an integrated starter-generator delivering 23 PS and 205 Nm.

It now produces 449 PS (previously 435 PS) and 600 Nm (640 Nm with boost for 10 seconds), compared to 560 Nm before. The boost pressure has been increased to 1.5 bar, the intake ducts are larger, the intake camshaft has been revised, and the compressor now delivers 7.5 kW (previously 5 kW).

The top version for now is the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Hybrid 4Matic, which has received a substantial power increase. The 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine with 449 PS is the same as in the GLE 53 4Matic, but the electric motor is now more powerful, producing 184 PS and 480 Nm (previously 170 PS and 480 Nm). Thanks to new software, the total system output is now 585 PS (previously 544 PS), while maximum torque remains 750 Nm.

Mercedes has not disclosed the battery capacity, but it is believed to remain at a net 25 kWh. However, Mercedes states an electric range of 88–91 km for the SUV and 90–93 km for the SUV coupe. As before, the battery can optionally be charged at DC fast-charging stations with up to 60 kW.

Mercedes has not provided details about a potential top AMG GLE 63 version, but given that the new V8 is available in the GLE 580 4Matic, it is very likely that an AMG GLE 63 with an upgraded V8 will be introduced later.

The Mercedes-AMG GLE comes standard with AMG Ride Control+ adaptive air suspension, while AMG Active Ride Control with active stabilizer bars powered by motors connected to the car’s 48V system is available as an option.

Six driving modes are available: “Slippery,” “Comfort,” “Sport,” “Sport+,” “Trail,” and “Individual.” The PHEV model also includes an Electric mode, allowing the car to reach a maximum speed of 140 km/h in fully electric driving. There is also a Battery Hold mode that preserves battery charge, but the Charge mode for charging the battery while driving is no longer available.
