There they are, the most powerful E-Class models of all time: the Mercedes-AMG E 63 4MATIC+ and the E 63 S 4MATIC+. Powered by the already familiar 4.0-liter biturbo V8, the company’s daredevils benefit from 571, 612 HP respectively. It only takes the top variant 3.4 seconds to hit the 100 km/h speed from a standstill.

Expressive and emotional, the silhouette of the E 63 4MATIC features broad muscles and sensual lines and is totally distinctive from the regular A from the A-pillar forward. First time ever in the E-Class, the bonnet is inset between the wings and the bumper like in a coupe. 17 millimetres wider, the wheel arches host greater track width and larger wheels on the front axle. The new E sports a new radiator grille with twin louvers in silver chrome, vertical black struts and the “AMG” badge, showcasing the power and the performance of the new sedan.

From the side, the profile of the E 63 4MATIC catches the eye with its arrow-shaped wing signet in silver chrome, bearing the 3D “V8 BITURBO 4MATIC+” lettering. Silver chrome inserts make the difference are fitted on the S model.

The rear end brings a new approach, with a defined spoiler lip in the color of the vehicle, mounted on the boot lid. The rear apron with diffuser-look insert and the two shiny chrome plated twin tailpipes highlight the attractive appearance of the rear.

The E 63 4MATIC+ is standardly shod with 9.5 J x 19 (front) and 10 J x 19 (rear) 10-spoke light-alloy wheels in titanium grey with a high-sheen finish and tyres in 265/35 ZR 19 (front) and 295/30 ZR 19 (rear) size. The S variant sports tyres of sizes 265/35 ZR 20 (front) and 295/30 ZR 20 (rear) mounted on 9.5 J x 20 (front) and 10 J x 20 (rear) 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels, painted matt titanium grey with a high-sheen finish. A new design of 20-inch cross-spoke forged wheel is available as an option.

The 4.0-liter biturbo V8 takes performance to a whole new level, hitting 612 HP (450 kW) and a peak torque of 850 Nm in the S version, while the non-S model has to settle for 571 HP and 750 Nm of torque. It only takes 3.4 seconds, 3.5 seconds respectively for the two new models to run from a standstill to 100 km/h. The maximum speed is electronically governed at 250 km/h.

“The new E 63 models represent the biggest step forward we’ve ever taken from one generation to the next”, proudly says Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

The AMG Cylinder Management only comes to confirm it. For top efficiency, Mercedes-AMG has fitted the V8 unit with the cylinder deactivation system. In the “Comfort” transmission drive program, the cylinder deactivation system is available in the wide engine speed range from 1000 to 3250 rpm. The system makes unbelievable fuel consumption figures real: a combined fuel consumption of 8.9 litres sets the new benchmark in the segment.

Why the plus in the designation? Both E 63 models are available with the innovative newly engineered AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system. This newly engineered, intelligent system brings together the advantages of various drive configurations for optimum traction even when pushed to the limit. The “Race” drive program and the deactivation of the ESP, with the transmission in the manual mode, drifting is still possible.

The sporty E-s feature four different AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Sport Plus” and “Individual”, allowing drivers to customize their car according to their own nature, modifying the response of the engine, transmission, suspension, steering, ESP® and all-wheel drive system. The “M” button switches directly into the manual mode, for shifting gears by the help of the paddles located behind the steering wheel.

The car also benefits from a newly configured and simplified RACESTART function. And the epithets are valid for the sports suspension system as well, as the latter one, based on the AIR BODY CONTROL multi-chamber air suspension, has been completely re-engineered.

The driver can go even further, setting the adaptive damping in three stages: Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus, easily selecting between the relaxed comfort on long journeys and maximum sportiness.

To improve traction and vehicle dynamics, Mercedes-AMG has granted yet another feature to the new E 63 4MATIC and E 63 S 4MATIC: they come with a mechanical rear differential lock, an electronically controlled one respectively. They both reduce slip on the inside wheel when cornering, without any control interventions in the braking system, with the car remaining stable when reducing speed and getting a better traction when moving off.

The large-sized high-performance braking system decelerates the vehicle reliably and quickly. The E 63 4MATIC+ has internally vented and perforated compound brake discs in size 360 x 36 mm at the front with six-piston fixed calipers and 360 x 24 mm with single-piston floating brake calipers on the rear axle. The E 63 S 4MATIC+ is fitted with even larger compound brake discs on the front axle in size 390 x 36 mm. The AMG Carbon Ceramic braking system is available as an option with brake discs in size 402 x 39 mm on the front axle and 360 x 32 mm on the rear axle.

The interior of the performance saloons highlight the dynamic bias and is sporty driving style-oriented. The performance sports steering wheel in black leather features a flattened bottom section, it is wrapped in black leather and bears the Touch Control system together with the electroplated shift paddles.

The driver of the E 63 4MATIC+ is in full control from his nappa leather sports seat with improved lateral support. AMG Performance seats with built-in headrests come as an option. As for the E 63 S 4MATIC+, the nappa leather covers the instrument panel, the sports steering wheel comes with crystal grey 12 o’clock marking and contrasting topstitching. An IWC analogue clock and seat belts in crystal grey take the sporty appearance further.

The AMG instrument cluster brings all relevant data in the driver’s field of vision. Dials in a chequered-flag look and the distinctive typography amplify the sporty touch. Those keen on motorsport will surely sing all the way to the racetrack thinking of the lap-recording RACETIMER system.

The E 63 4MATIC+ or E 63 S 4MATIC+ can be further customised, as a Night package with attractive wheel alternatives and two Carbon-fibre packages is also available.

Mercedes-AMG sends onto the road the E 63 S 4MATIC+ “Edition 1”, an exclusive and distinctive car, with paint finish in Night black magno, dynamic stripes on the side sill panels and new AMG 20-inch forged wheels in matt black with high-gloss polished rim flange and the Night package.
