We don’t want to be subjective and only depict the drag races won by the Mercedes cars. So here is one lost by the Mercedes-AMG E63 S against the 2015 Corvette C7. Though we can’t tell if it was the car or the driver being slow. Maybe you can decide, so here it is.
Now that you got to see the video, we can fill you in, without being accused of spoiling the surprise.
Road Test TV pitted the 2015 Mercedes-AMG E63 Model S against the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette C7 in a quarter of a mile race on a circuit.
The Chevy is powered by a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated LT1 V8 engine delivering 460 HP and 460 lb ft (623 Nm) by the brand’s brand-new 7-speed manual transmission.
The Mercedes shelters a 5.5-liter Biturbo V8, ready to deliver 577 HP and 590 ft lb (800 Nm) to all wheels, via a 7-speed MCT automatic transmission.
The Corvette takes 3.8 seconds from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph), while the Mercedes only needs 3.5 seconds to run the same distance. The American car might find a fine advantage in its much lighter weight.
As you can see in the video, the Corvette looks like parachuted across the racetrack and the driver can’t hold his horses, so he jumps off the line with a couple of meters, while the Mercedes driver leaves the launch control function aside.
The Corvette is the one to get ahead, but as the green light display shows, the AMG vehicle had a better time on the quarter of a mile drag race than the Corvette. It was 12.25 seconds for the German car and 12.51 for the American, both reaching the same top speed, 118 mph (190 km/h). So man, it’s all about good reaction time!
