Mercedes-Benz boss Ola Kallenius is actively involved in the unveiling of new Mercedes models. A few months ago, Mercedes presented on YouTube a video of Ola Kallenius driving the new electric Mercedes G-Class G-Class on a climb up the Shockl mountain. Now, the Mercedes boss has driven the third-generation Mercedes CLA on the Mercedes test track in Immendingen.

As with the presentation of the electric Mercedes G-Class, the YouTube video is directed as a dialog between presenter Sarah Harman and the Mercedes boss.

Prior to the test drive, Kallenius presented the world premiere of the new Mercedes CLA’s headlights, whose light signature takes the Mercedes logo, as with the Mercedes CLA Concept study and the new Mercedes E-Class. The new headlights, which are joined by a light strip, give the new Mercedes CLA a sporty and futuristic look. The design will focus on sportiness and modern aesthetics, while at the same time emphasizing the elegance and luxury typical of Mercedes.

Another important feature of the new Mercedes is that the windows on all four doors are frameless, similar to much more expensive coupes.

MMA platform with multiple powertrains
The third-generation Mercedes CLA is the first of Mercedes’ new generation of entry-level models to be built on the new modular MMA platform. It will be available initially as an electric model with a propulsion system derived from the EQXX and later as a hybrid model with 48V technology.

The hybrid model will be powered by new engines jointly developed with Geely at the new plant in China. Kallenius emphasized that the EQXX technology and in particular the two-speed transmission will ensure a balanced combination of power and efficiency.

Ola Kallenius emphasized that the new CLA will be the most intelligent Mercedes ever built thanks to the new generation MB.OS operating system which will also feature artificial intelligence and the new MBUX Virtual Assistant.
