Mercedes’ global sales fell by 12% in Q3 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, due to major declines in America and Asia. However, PHEV model sales rose by 10%.
The sharp decline in Asian sales had a significant impact on the overall Q3 2025 results. In Asia, sales dropped 22% to just 175,500 units, driven mainly by a 27% decrease in China (125,100 units sold).
The bad news is that the North American market also entered a downward trend, with sales falling 17% to only 80,000 units in Q3 2025. The drop in North America is largely due to a similar 17% contraction in the U.S. market. The tariffs imposed by the Trump Administration, which took effect on August 1, have clearly affected U.S. sales — even though Mercedes produces several SUVs there, such as the GLE and GLS. However, volume models like the GLC and C-Class are imported from Europe.
In this complex geopolitical context, the slight increase in European sales could not offset the declines in the Asian and American markets. In Europe, sales grew 2% to 160,800 units, mainly thanks to strong performance in Germany, where sales increased 3% to 51,600 units.
Still, there are two pieces of good news:
-
The decline in electric vehicle sales has stopped, remaining at the same level as in Q3 2024 — 42,600 units sold. The new Mercedes CLA is expected to drive growth in Q4 2025.
-
PHEV sales rose 10% to 96,300 units, accounting for 21.8% of total sales.
Top End
After a period of decline, Top-End model sales rose 10% to 67,800 units, thanks to a rebound in the S-Class, which sold 28,300 units. In the third quarter, one in three S-Class models sold was a Maybach. Mercedes-AMG sales increased 6%, and G-Class sales jumped 31%.
Core
Sales in the Core segment fell 17%, with the C-Class and GLC particularly affected by U.S. tariffs.
Entry
Sales in the Entry segment continued their downward trend, dropping another 12% to just 123,800 units. A recovery is expected following the launch of the new CLA and CLA Shooting Brake, with the new GLA set to debut next year.
