Mercedes is working on its first virtual show car. Chief Designer Gorden Wagener has already teased it on his Instagram account and from what we can see, it looks… jaw-dropping.

The show car might show up during the 2022 League of Legends World Championship, that is on starting September 29 and lasts until October 5. Chief Designer Gorden Wagner’s social media post hints at the event. But it remains to be seen how this super sports car is going to find its place in the video game.

The contour of the car is vaguely visible beneath a transparent tarpaulin. The backlit three-pointed star logo lights from beneath it. Vertical LED strips at both ends of the front grille confirm that we’re dealing with an extremely wide model. There is a light bar splitting the grille from the hood. And massive prominent wheel arches are visible, hosting just as massive wheels.

The Mercedes virtual car resembles concept cars we have already seen

The exaggerated lines underneath the tarp remind us of the Mercedes-Benz Vision AVTR concept, which the company revealed at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. But it also resembles the Mercedes-AMG Vision AMG Gran Turismo. That model starred in the 2017 blockbuster Justice League, serving as a daily for Bruce Wayne aka Batman.

Most likely, the virtual show car is a electric, presumably riding on the new AMG.EA architecture and using axial flux electric motors to roll.

It surely won’t spark any series production model, but, as most show cars do, it might inspire the future design in the company’s lineup.

The premium German carmaker has a long-standing relationship with Riot Games, the company developing League of Legends. Last year, Mercedes designed a ring for the winners of the event. This year, it has done the same for the championship
