To celebrate 80 years, the Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks division treated itself to a special gift: a super-luxury Unimog with a more powerful engine, modified body, and top-level equipment.
The Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks division is responsible for custom conversions of the Unimog, Zetros, and Econic, and in 2026 it will celebrate its 80th anniversary. For this reason, it has created a special model it considers to be “the most luxurious Unimog ever.”
Developed in cooperation with partner Hellgeth Engineering, the special model is based on the Unimog U 4023, a 6-meter-long vehicle with a 3.85-meter wheelbase and an 8-ton curb weight. Like the production model, the special version features lockable differentials, portal axles, and a flexible frame for impressive articulation.
The 5.1-liter, four-cylinder OM 934 engine producing 231 PS and 900 Nm has been replaced by the 7.7-liter, inline six-cylinder OM 636, which develops 300 PS. At the same time, the ratios of the 8-speed transmission have been optimized and driving comfort has been improved.
Based on the double-cab U 4023, the anniversary model has an SUV-inspired exterior, according to the manufacturer, and comes with matte gray paintwork, 20-inch aluminum beadlock wheels fitted with 365/85 tires, a distinctive lighting concept with modern LED headlights integrated into a redesigned front bumper, an LED light bar on the roof, and the MirrorCam system with digital cameras and monitors instead of exterior mirrors.
From the rear, this Unimog looks like an XXL pickup, with a new cargo bed structure and a stylish roll bar behind the cab.
The interior is limousine-level luxurious, featuring fine leather upholstery and leather floor mats. With this Unimog, the Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks division says it has “set new standards in this segment and fulfilled the wish of many Unimog customers: to complement the Unimog’s decades-long, nearly unrivaled off-road capabilities with even greater power and a distinctive design.”
To this end, the Special Trucks division is even considering a possible further development of this model: “To gain valuable insights for a possible future development stage, the vehicle will be tested by a customer in real-world conditions next year.”
Mercedes has not provided details about the price of this special model, nor about the customer who will test the vehicle next year.
