The rich extravagant Americans were already in tears. Until they found out the news: the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×42 might just make it to the US.

The off-road monster fitted with the latest comfort, technology and safety features, is the model with the longest production and Bart Herring, Mercedes’ general manager of product planning in the United States says the old-school SUV is not going anywhere: “It’s here for the long term.” He is the one that confirmed the good news for the off-road enthusiasts: the car that is second best to the 6×6 beast, the the G500 4×4² is – as he states – “very close to a good decision” regarding the availability of the SUV in the US.

The Mercedes-Benz G500 4×42 has only been offered in selected markets across Europe since its launch in 2015.

With all features fitted in the regular G550, the 4.0-liter V8 biturbo and the 7-speed G-Tronic included, the double traction boxy monster comes with a set of massive 22-inch wheels wrapped in 325/55-series tires. The newly developed suspension makes the occupants feel like they are climbing a stairway to the heaven of the off-road.

With off-road abilities inherited from his bigger and more complicated 6×6 brother, the 4×42 comes with a 450 mm ground clearance, with increased approach and departure angles at 52 and 54 degrees respectively, while the fording depth goes up from 600mm to 1000mm.

Mercedes-Benz promised that the G500 4×4² would run from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.5 seconds, reach a top speed of 130 mph (210 km/h) with the optional 22-inch wheels on and a price of (America, hold on well!) $254,604 (226,100 euros)!
