The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance is already an impressive car in terms of figures. It was the company’s most powerful until the Mercedes-AMG One hypercar broke cover. But Opus saw more potential in the PHEV.
The first Affalterbach-made PHEV, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance, rolled off the assembly line with 843 PS (831 HP) and 1,400 Nm (1,033 lb-ft) of torque. The 4.0-liter biturbo V8 and an electric motor slap them to the tarmac via an eight-speed automatic and the 4MATIC+ all wheel-drive system.
A top speed of 316 km/h (196 mph) and a run from zero to hero (100 km/h or 62 mph) in 2.8 seconds threw it right outside the hypercar zone. But Opus seems to have found the password for the hypercar world for this AMG.
The German tuner took the PHEV to 965 PS (952 HP) and 1,550 Nm (1,143 lb-ft). As you may have already predicted, these numbers change performance figures as well. This is how the S E Performance now flashes its way from a standstill to 100 km/h or 62 mph in 2.7 seconds. And it hits 200 km/h (128 mph) in 8.55 seconds instead of the standard 9.1. Top speed now goes all the way to 321 km/h (199 mph). Quite a road weapon, isn’t it?
A special exhaust flap control system and an OBD lowering module are also part of the plan for the beast.
Opus will make their version of the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance available starting next month. They need to get the TUV approval first, for what they now call “Just another Opus monster.”
If you think this output is not enough for AMG’s first PHEV, don’t rush to make the compromise and get this car. Just wait. Opus is planning to smash the 1,000-horsepower border in winter. So… winter is coming!
