2016 Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM car has landed. Full official specs and photo gallery reveal striking new styling inspired by the all-new Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupe set to debut alongside the racing queen at the Frankfurt motor show.
No longer based on the old W204 C-Class, the Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM car set to challenge the 2016 title brings the modern design language of all-new C-Class Coupé to the popular Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters touring series, striking AMG flavored features like the aggressive headlights and twin blade grille included.
Current DTM regulations strictly limit significant alterations made to the aerodynamics, especially below what is known as the design line. As a result, a large number of components have been taken from its tried and tested predecessor with the vehicle’s aerodynamics above the design line, of course, adapted to the new shape. The chassis is set to retain the carbon fiber monocoque solution complete with integrated roll cage made of steel and double wishbones suspension with spring/damper units to front and rear axles, actuated via pushrods.
Weight remains low, at 1,120 kg, while drive is sent to the rear-wheels courtesy of a six-speed sequential transverse-mounted gearbox with pneumatically operated sequential gear shift on steering wheel and 3-plate carbon fibre clutch operated by foot pedal. Good for 483hp (489PS) at 7,500 rpm and 500Nm (369lb-ft), the race-spec 4.0-liter V8 engine sees its output limited by strict DTM regulations which imply that teams are not allowed to use significantly different specifications for their racing cars.
The 2016 Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM car is the last developed under the more relaxed European DTM rules. From 2017 onward, all racing models will have to comply not only with the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters regulations, but also with the ones governed by the Super GT Japanese touring car championship. This translates to similar specs in both the chassis and aerodynamic department as well as running the smaller 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines of Super GT fame.
With the current Mercedes-AMG C 63 DTM leading the 2015 season with Pascal Wehrlein from team Gooix/Original-Teile at the wheel, we can only wish the new 2016 DTM C 63 racer the best of luck!
