..A Mercedes-Maybach S-Class with a trailer hitch is something that you don’t see every day. But Mercedes gives you that chance. By the bizarre looks of the luxury sedan, the carmaker is probably testing something on the public roads in Florida.
Someone spotted this contraption in a car park and uploaded it online The vehicle showing up on Reddit is a two-tone Mercedes-Maybach S 680, looking intriguing, to say the least. Just like it would belong to someone who doesn’t give a single dime about it. The fuel cap area displays several dents. And it seems that some stickers have been recently peeled off the bodywork, right next to the double-M logo. The plastic chord that was supposed to connect the lid to the fuel tank cap seems pulled off.
Furthermore, some duct tape is both on the rear fender and rear bumper as it is sticking them together. And the set of wheels this car comes with is nowhere to be seen in the Maybach lineup.
What is probably the most intriguing part of it all is the fact that the vehicle sports a trailer hitch. It wouldn’t be that strange if we were dealing with the Maybach GLS. But who would ever tow a trailer with a luxury sedan?
Even though it’s driving in Florida, the V12-powered Maybach displays a Michigan registration plate.
What Mercedes is doing with this odd version, we can’t tell for sure. But the Maybach S 680 is already for sale in the U.S. and everywhere else in the world. So it might be some test mule engineers are using to test some new tech. For those interested in the stock version, with no trailer hitch, the price starts at little above the $200,000 mark. This much money will bring a V12 engine with 612 PS (604 HP) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque, a run from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph), and a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).
