The Mercedes-AMG One is undoubtedly very fast, but we cannot quite say the same about the market launch. The hypercar was already previously delayed and now Mercedes-AMG reports that the wealthy customers have to be patient even more, until 2021.
With great excitement, some of the richest people in the world are waiting for the delivery of their Mercedes-AMG One. Lewis Hamilton, Valtteri Bottas and Nico Rosberg, among others, are only few of the (current and former) Formula 1 drivers who have signed the purchase contract. Already from 2017 we know what we can expect from the car, but since then the introduction has been periodically pushed back.
The last time we heard from Mercedes-AMG, 2020 was still mentioned as the deadline for the first deliveries, but it has now become clear that the official market launch will really happen in 2021. Road and Track magazine has learned this from an Mercedes-AMG top man. Adjusting the engine for use on public roads and the stricter WLTP cycle that has been introduced in the meantime are mentioned as the main reasons for the delay.
The Mercedes-AMG One hypercar will undoubtedly still be worth the wait once it finally reaches the showrooms. With the One, Mercedes-AMG brings Formula 1 technology to the public highway thanks to a revolutionary 1.6-liter V6 engine with electrical support that has been transferred largely unchanged from the powertrain of Mercedes’ Formula 1 cars.
With more than 1,000 horsepower on tap, the Mercedes-AMG One will reach 100 km / h in less than two seconds. 680 horsepower go to the rear wheels, with the remaining part channeled to the front wheels. The top speed exceeds 350 km / h.
