Mercedes-Maybach will launch the first SUV in the range by the end of this year, sources close to the company said for British magazine Autocar. The new model will be based on the architecture of the Mercedes-Benz GLS.

The future SUV developed by the German manufacturer will “fight” with models such as Bentley Bentayga, Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Range Rover SV Autobiography. It will benefit from a more generous wheelbase, but also from consistent modifications to the interior.

Voices close to the company mention that the new SUV will take over some of the interior elements that we have already unveiled on the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. At the same time, the SUV has been designed to provide performance, generous space for the rear passengers and, of course, increased comfort.

Sources mention that the SUV will have a more generous wheelbase than the one currently offered by GLS (3,135 millimeters), while the exterior design will be strongly influenced by the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury concept. For the interior, the Germans will prepare an architecture with four or five places.

As for the engine, Mercedes-Maybach will propose a 4.0-liter petrol V8 unit coupled to a nine-speed automatic gearbox and an all-wheel drive system. Air body control air suspension will be standard. At the same time, there are rumors that the Germans could come with a version equipped with the 6.0-liter V12 engine.
