Mercedes-Benz adds a new variant to the GLC family in China. This is called the Mercedes-Benz GLC L, a variant with a longer wheelbase than the original.
A car manufacturer who wants to bring a model to the Chinese market in the higher segments, would do well to stretch that car somewhat. In China, cars such as the 3-series, 5-series and C- and E-Class are available in a longer wheelbase guise too and also SUVs do not escape that expansion trend. Earlier this year Audi in China presented the Q5 L and that car will soon get a rival in the shape of the brand new Mercedes-Benz GLC L.
The GLC L has a ten centimeter longer wheelbase, so the distance between the front and rear axle is now 2.97 meters. The total length of the car is 4.76 meters, while the European version is 4.67 meters long. All the extra centimeters are completely beneficial to the rear passengers.
On the optical level there is practically no difference to the GLC as we know it. Only the longer rear doors betray that this is not a regular GLC.
In therms of pricing, the GLC L fits in China above the regular GLC. Mercedes-Benz supplies the GLC L in 200, 250 and 300 petrol powered guises. The extra price for the extended version is roughly € 1,300 compared to the regular version.
