Daimler introduces the all-new 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe to the famous Nürburgring-Nordschleife. Our colleagues from Carscoops were of course on time to shoot pictures of the test round.

Anyone who currently walks into the showroom of Mercedes-Benz will see the GLE and its sporty GLE Coupe brother. Although Mercedes has only used the model plate name GLE since 2015, the basis of the car dates back to 2011.

BMW has recently renewed the X5 and not too long a new X6 will come into play. Mercedes-Benz is soon moving forward with a new GLE too and of course a new GLE Coupe is included in the launch schedule, as the latest spy pictures caught on the Nürburgring clearly prove.

The new GLE Coupe is once again given a striking design profile, to say the least. The roofline is lower than that of the regular GLE and runs sharply towards the rear. Of course, the new GLE Coupe will also spawn a beastly AMG version, a car that serves as a response to the future X5 M.

Mercedes-AMG will probably exchange the 5.5-liter V8 for the biturbo 4.0 V8 that it also applies in cars like the E and S 63. For milder AMG fun, a new ’43’ version will be released, although it is not yet known whether that will actually get that name.

We expect the new GLE and GLE Coupe on the market next year. Incidentally, now the GLE Coupe has to fight not only the BMW X6, but also the Audi Q8. Porsche is in turn working on a coupe version of the Cayenne as well. The niche gets busier and busier every day.
