Just one car in Indonesia should never break down: the presidential car. But it did. So the President and the First Lady were forcedly turned into pedestrians last weekend until another limousine came to rescue. The presidential Mercedes is 10 years old.

During an official visit in West Kalimantan, the car that was transporting President Joko Widodo broke down during the journey, after driving for approximately 30 minute.

The President had just inaugurated a power plant in the province’s Mempawah regency and, together with his entourage, he was traveling to Kubu Raya regency for lunch when the car broke down in the middle of the road.

Security instantly cleared the area and President Jokowi and First Lady Iriana were then moved to another car.

The Mercedes-Benz S600 used as a presidential car was acquire back in 2007, roughly ten years ago and has been well taken care of throughout the years, with routine maintenance at the right time. The car never suffered any major issues, the presidential representatives claim, even though it went through a similar incident last year, in September 2016, during a trip to East Java. But the head of the state refused to spend any money on a new vehicle, as it jeopardizes the security of the most important man in the country This time, the Benz will probably be fixed and sold, as it is considered unsafe for its precious passenger. A newer armored Mercedes-Benz S600 will get the mission to protect the Indonesian President.
