The first official photos of the second generation Mercedes G-Class 4×4 2 have leaked on the internet. As we announced in December 2021, the new G-Class 4×4 2 will be an AMG model. The Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4 2 already shows up in the AMG configurator.

As we announced in December 2021, the second generation of the Mercedes G-Class 4×4 2 will be an AMG model. Now we have confirmation. In the configurator on the website www.mercedes-amg.com has already appeared the Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4 2 model that uses the same 4-litre M177 V8 bi-turbo engine developing 585 HP/6000 rpm ;and 850 Nm/2500-3500 rpm, transmitted to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission.
The move to an AMG model has changed the positioning of this model away from extreme ground clearance. Thus, unlike the old Mercedes G 500 4×4 2 which had a ground clearance of 450 mm and could drive through 1000 mm of water, the new Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4 2 has a ground clearance of only 351 mm and can drive through 910 mm of water.
However, the new Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4 2 has 113 mm more ground clearance than the regular AMG G 63 and better off-road angles. Thus, the ventral angle is 42 degrees compared to 21.7 degrees on the AMG G 63 and the angle of approach and departure is now 41.3 degrees (27 degrees on the G 63) and 36.8 degrees (29.6 degrees on the G 63) respectively. To this end, the portal axles have been modified and the ladder chassis has been optimised.
As with the old generation, the flared carbon fibre wheel arches stand out, but the decorative carbon fibre elements on the sides are new. At the rear you can see the spare wheel cover also made of carbon fibre and the roof access ladder typical for professional off-roaders. New are also the additional spotlights above the windscreen. The Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4 2 runs on 22-inch AMG multi-spoke wheels painted in matte black.
The price is expected to increase substantially. The old Mercedes G 500 4×4 2 costs 230,000 euros but the new model has 163 HP more. Being an AMG model as well, the standard equipment will be richer. That’s why we believe the price will exceed 300.000 euro but it still will be a bargain compared with the 500.000 euro price of a Mercedes-AMG G 63 6×6.
