Mercedes presented the complete details of the new generation Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. As we anticipate, the top version of the Mercedes-Maybach S 680 4Matic has under the hood the famous 6-liter v12 engine now combined with a 9-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
From a certain point of view, the former Mercedes-Maybach S 650 with V12 engine was a top model of contrasts: it had a noble 12-cylinder configuration under the hood, but it was combined with an older 7-speed automatic transmission and only with rear-wheel drive. A huge torque of no less than 1000 Nm transmited only to the rear wheels.
Now this compromise is over.
The new top model with V12 engine is called Mercedes-Maybach S 680 4Matic and comes standard with all-wheel drive and the new 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. Because the 9-speed gearbox does not support more than 900 Nm of torque, the new V12 engine has reduced torque from 1000 Nm to 900 Nm. Thus, compared to the old V12 from the Mercedes-Maybach S 650 which develops 630 HP/5000 rpm and 1000 Nm/2300-4200 rpm, the new V12 has 612 HP/5250-5500 rpm and 900 Nm/2000-4000 rpm. But the acceleration from 0 to 100 k /h has been improved by 0.2 seconds, from 4.7 seconds to 4.5 seconds. Instead, consumption increased from 12.7 to 13.3 l / 100 km.
Compared to the old generation, the new Mercedes-Maybach is 7 mm longer and the wheelbase is 31 mm longer with a length of 5469 mm and a wheelbase of 3369 mm. On the other hand, the trunk volume was reduced by 5 liter from 500 to 495 liters. Thus, the new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is 180 mm longer than the S-Class long wheelbase and the wheelbase is also 180 mm longer.
Mercedes-Maybach is at the same time an excellent driving car but it also offers supreme comfort for the rear passengers. Thus, Executive seats and Chauffeur package are standard. The backrest of the Executive seats can be tilted between 19 (desk work position) and 43.5 degrees (sunbed-like position). Optionally, you can order the Rear Seat Comfort package that comes with multicontour seats in the rear with various massage programs and neck/shoulder heating. As with the S-Class there is also the First Class rear option where the center console continues to the rear.
For easy access in the rear, comfort rear doors can also be ordered, their opening and closing can be operated from the driver’s seat, from the MBUX multimedia system or through gestures if the MBUX Interior Assistant system is ordered for the rear. From roadsters and coupes, Mercedes offers for the first time in a limousine the automatic seat belt extender system for the rear seats. The seat belt extender is integrated into the adjustable backrest of the Executive seat, and therefore always in the right position for the passenger. Another premiere is Adaptive Rear Lighting. The brightness, the size and position of the light spot can be adjusted as well as the light color (warm / cold).
Also, as with the S-Class, the integral steering with a steering angle of up to 10 degrees and the E-Active Body Control suspension are available as an option. The later is combined with the Airmatic suspension, Road Surface Scan and Curve functions.
A special characteristics of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is the two-tone paint finish with dividing line. This is a very expensive option because the dividing line is applied by hand according toi the highest quality criteria. Other design differences from the regular S-Class are the distinctive bonnet with a chromed fin and the Mercedes-Maybach radiator grille with fine, vertical chrome pinstripes and the Maybach brand logo on the C-pillar.
