Mercedes-Benz is slowly expanding the new GLE family. Just days before the start of the Geneva Motor Show, the Germans unveiled the first images and details about the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4Matic + performance version with 435 horsepower and 520 Nm.
The 3.0-liter in line six-cylinder engine under the hood is a technological tour-de-force equipped with a turbo compressor, an electric compressor and a micro-hybrid system with EQ Boost technology providing an extra 22 horsepower and 250 Nm, in addition to the 48-volt electric system. As you’ve probably guessed, we are talking about the same propulsion system as already used by the CLS 53, E 53 Coupe and the E 53 Convertible.
The new Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4Matic + is matted exclusively to a 9-speed AMG Speedshift automatic gearbox and a 4Matic + four-wheel drive system. With this powertrain the Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4Matic + launches in 5.3 seconds to a speed of 100 km / h. The top speed is 250 km / h. For the first time, the EQ Boost system can also move the GLE in sailing mode and that means that the consumption is reduced at these times thanks to the electrical support. According to Daimler, the average consumption is rated at 9.3 l / 100 km.
Standard equipment also includes the AMG Active Ride Control pneumatic suspension that offers enhanced comfort and allows personalization via several modes: Comfort, Sport and Sport + are dedicated to urban roads, while Trail and Sand have been developed specifically for off- road. A modified steering system and larger, more powerful brakes all round further emphasize the sporty character of this new AMG SUV.
From the outside, the new Mercedes-AMG variant of the GLE can of course be recognized thanks to its Panamericana grille with fifteen vertical bars. Furthermore, things like the sportier-looking bumpers, the double exhausts and the special 20- to 22-inch large alloy wheels distinguish this GLE from its more conventional brethren. The optional AMG Night Package includes tinted windows and various bodywork elements painted in black.
Inside, the MBUX system is available as standard and includes an AMG specific menu and a choice of 4 styles: Classic, Sport, Supersport (AMG) and Discreet. Also exclusive to the new Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 4Matic + are the red elements for the Nappa leather steering wheel and seats, coupled with the upper part of the instrument panel covered in Artico leather.
