Mercedes-Benz reports that from 2022 forward the extremely successful GLC SUV will also be built in Sindelfingen, Germany. This should keep the plant operating at full capacity – and secure its future.
This involves additional capacity for the current GLC production in Bremen (Germany) and at Valmet in Finland. Currently, Mercedes-Benz also produces the GLC in Chinam but only for the local market. Sindelfingen is basically the second German production location for the GLC.
Daimler does not confirm it officially, but it is clear we are talking about the second generation of the GLC SUV. After all, the current model was first produced in 2015 and was revised this year. In 2022 the time is ripe for a successor.
In addition, plant manager Michael Bauer announces that the Sindelfingen factory will be connected to the global production network where fluctuations in demand between plants can be accommodated. Bauer did not want to make any concrete statements about the investments planned in Sindelfingen.
In Sindelfingen, among others, the GLA, E-Class and the S-Class are born. The production of the GLA in Sindelfingen expires at the end of the year. According to Daimler, around 25,000 people work in the plant which, in 2018, produced 310,000 cars.
