New Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213 has been spied in traffic, on the streets of Stuttgart, by amateur car spotter Walko.
In contrast with the numerous spy photos we’ve seen lately, the white prototype sports lighter camouflage, especially around the front-grille and the headlights which are now clearly visible. The big starry emblem supported by two chrome bars signals that this is in fact an Avantgarde model. The design gives us the expected C-Class and S-Class vibes, the only detail that seems to differentiate the E-Class from its bigger/smaller siblings being its tauter, slightly sportier proportions.
The all-new E-Class is expected to inherit the MRA modular platform from the W205 C-Class with the wheelbase extended for superior interior space. The engine line will be all-new for the E-Class, also mimicking the C-Class’ collection of fresh petrols and diesels. The 4-liter twin-turbo will be used in its aspirated form to replace the old 4.7-liter of the E500/550.
According to latest rumors, Mercedes is also going back to its L6 roots, developing a new twin-turbo 2.9-liter inline-6 engine. And this is not all, as the all-new MRA platform can also support engines as small as the 3-cylinder units expected to debut alongside the refreshed A-Class, next year.
