The future Mercedes EQS electric sedan could have an AMG performance version that will develop over 600 horsepower, according to unofficial information from the British press.
At the 2019 Franfkurt Auto Show, Mercedes-Benz introduced the Vision EQS concept, which anticipates the launch of a 470-horsepower luxury electric sedan, whose 100 kWh battery will provide a maximum range of 700 kilometers.
The new EQS, with an estimated range of 700 kilometers, would be presented in production guise by 2021 at the latest. Known internally under the codename V297, the EQS will be Mercedes’ fifth dedicated EQ model, after the EQC SUV, EQV van, EQA and EQB SUVs.
The future electric model will be built on the EVA modular platform (dedicated to electric cars) of the German manufacturer. Rivals will include the current Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan, but also the next-gen Jaguar XJ, expected to become an electric only model starting next year.
With 476 HP and 760 Nm, the EQS 550 4Matic won’t be the most powerful EQS version.
The British press claims that German engineers are already working on a performance version for the EQS, scheduled to launch in 2022. According to Autocar, Mercedes EQS will develop over 600 horsepower and 900 Nm in the AMG version.
At the same time, the Mercedes EQS AMG would travel from 0 to 100 km / h in less than the 4.2 seconds indicated for the standard version of the electric sedan.
