Mercedes works on AMG variant with 600 hp for the EQS electric luxury sedan

The future Mercedes EQS electric sedan could have an AMG performance version that will develop over 600 horsepower. The British press has launched the unofficial information.

At the 2019 Franfkurt Auto Show, Mercedes-Benz introduced the Vision EQS concept. The study previews the launch of a 470-horsepower luxury electric sedan, whose 100 kWh battery will provide a maximum range of 700 kilometers.

The new EQS would be presented in production guise by 2021 at the latest. Known internally under the codename V297, the EQS will be the company’s fifth dedicated EQ model, after the EQC SUV, EQV van, EQA and EQB SUVs.

The future electric model will make use of the EVA modular platform (dedicated to electric cars) of the German manufacturer. Rivals will include the current Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan, but also the next-gen Jaguar XJ. The latetr should become an electric only model starting next year.

With 476 HP and 760 Nm, the EQS 550 4Matic won’t be the most powerful EQS version.

The British press claims that German engineers are already working on a performance version for the EQS. It may arrive on the market in 2022. According to Autocar, Mercedes EQS will develop over 600 horsepower and 900 Nm in the AMG version.

At the same time, the Mercedes EQS AMG would travel from 0 to 100 km / h in less than the 4.2 seconds. This is the figure for the standard version of the electric sedan.
